What are “direct repair programs” DRP

On April 21, 2014, in Blogs, by Administrator

I found this article very interesting:

A direct repair program is the general name used to describe insurance companies’ circles of collision repairers willing to sign an agreement with an insurer agreeing to adhere to the insurer’s “guidelines” setting parameters and limitations on the type of repair you will receive in exchange for the insurer referring you to them.
Unlike in the health insurance arena, your premium for auto insurance is not based on your agreement to patronize an auto repair equivalent to a health maintenance organization (“HMO”).  It’s like you paid your premium to go to any collision repair shop you choose, but now the insurer is trying to force you into using one of its HMO shops.  If your insurer succeeds in convincing you to utilize a “DRP” shop, it is able to exercise more control over the repair you actually receive.  That control is about saving the insurer money, not about ensuring you receive the best possible repair.  In fact, some of those repairs coming out of insurer “preferred” shops are downright dangerous and render the vehicle unsafe to drive.  That is because the shop is trying to please the insurer by keeping costs down, and sometimes the only way it can make money is to skimp on your repairs.

That doesn’t mean that all collision facilities participating in insurer DRP programs do poor work, or that all non-DRP shops do great work.  What it does mean is that the shops participating in the DRP programs are far more likely to think of the insurer as the customer rather than you and more likely to give the insurer what it wants — a cheap repair — rather than what you want — a safe and proper repair.

Also of concern is that the insurer forces the repair shop to indemnify it for claims made against it about your vehicle repair.  This can put the repairer’s own garage insurance at risk and your ability to recover against the shop if something goes wrong.

This shop came recommended to us from a local detail shop.  My wife’s Corvette was side swiped and the insurance company recommended a shop that we were not impressed with after the estimate was done which took two weeks.  Anyways, we wanted the best painter available and to our amazement they did an awesome job on her Corvette.  They blended the paint beautifully and the car looks 100% better than before.  Brian, the owenr, was awesome to deal with and I would trust them with ;any repair!!   Great experience.  Tom & Jenn

My experience with Auto Body and More was out of this world. Being in customer service myself, I have high expectations of what good service means. From the moment that I spoke with them I had a good feeling, and I was comfortable leaving my prized possession in their hands. When I came to pick up my car I literally choked up and had to fight back tears of joy. My baby looked like new and I have Brian and his team to thank for that. I would tell anyone willing to listen go to this shop if your in  need of auto repairs; the body work is not only top notch so is the customer service.

I picked Auto Body and More because I saw some of the intricate paint jobs they did on motorcycles and trucks. I thought that if someone can paint that carefully, their attention to detail would carry over into general body work. I was right. Their price was right in line with all the other body shops, but the quality was better. I could see it in the way the parts aligned and the attention to detail. Bryan and John are good to work with and helpful when it came to negotiating with the insurance adjuster.

I interviewed more than a dozen body shops before selecting Auto Body and More. When they worked on my Volvo, they did MORE than they said they would. Their work was impeccable. Ask to a look at the artistic paint jobs they have done over the years. You will be impressed. Great attention to detail that I doubted I would find at other shops. Bryan really cares for his work and it shows. Good people to deal with. Very helpful in cajoling the insurance company to treat me the best they could. Incidentally, all body shops seem to use the same estimating software, so the prices are all nearly identical. You might as well get the best workmanship you can. See these guys.

I was referred to Auto Body and More and was told they were honest and they really take care of their customers. I didn’t need any more convincing than that. Bryan and his team took great care with my car, communicating with me at each step so I knew exactly where they were in the process. They couldn’t have been nicer to work with and my car looks brand spankin’ new. I hope I don’t need them again, but it’s good to know there is a great company with super nice people who will get the job done when you need it. No stress, good prices, great service, nice folks – Auto Body and More is a winner.

First class group with old school values! I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a business that is going to be super detailed and thorough with your vehicle as if it were their own. Bryan is a stand up business owner, a man of his word, no guess work or shady dealings; you know exactly what is going on with your vehicle at all times. He and his staff went out of their way to help me and work with me. Bryan made sure to keep in touch with me and my insurance agency so that everyone was in the loop. He emailed me pictures of my truck so I could see the progress and encouraged me to stop by anytime I wanted to check on it. I have a 2003 Chevy HD 1500 lifted truck and it looks brand new now, better than it was when I bought it! They did an absolutely beautiful job. Everyone at Autobody and More are professional and definitely know what they are doing AND they are super honest and up front. I can’t say enough good things about them and if I need anything in the future they have my business!

About a week ago we were contacted by the owner of the Language Truck, Bridget Hayes. This is a mobile class room.  The nice  thing about this truck is that it comes to you, set up and ready to go, tutoring in several fields of education (English, Spanish, and Computer classes).  This Language truck will go to any business, event, church, neighborhood, and other locations.  Language Truck is a mini-bus-classroom that provides workstations with laptop computers and wireless internet for up to 10 adults. Now how cool is that!!

Bridget Hayes and I sat down for about and hour last week and she expressed to me how important this project is to her and how much time, effort and of course money she has invested so far and one of the last things to do was to get it painted.  Although Bridget went to several AutoBody shops in the area she had expressed to me she just didn’t feel like she was being treated right.
After talking to Bridget we walked outside and took a look at her Language truck and went over all the things that she wanted to get done.
First and foremost was the color scheme and how the colors would flow together. I expressed my opinions and gave Bridget some options to think about.

A few days later I contacted Bridget again and we both decided to go ahead with this project.
Over the next few weeks we are going to be doing a lot of things to the Language truck and I will be posting pictures of the complete progress of it so please stay tuned in this is going to be one nice ride.

If you want more information on this project or maybe you have one of your own please contact us at:
Auto Body and More
Remember, We do more than just autobody.

Here are a few pictures of some of the progress already

Removing the decalsSanding the paint
Just a little follow up. Language truck is about 95% sanded and we are just going over the nooks and crannies to make sure the truck is completely sanded. Finished off the body work and primed the area’s. Removed the Stop sign for now. Getting ready to re caulking tomorrow. We are getting close to painting!!!!

UPDATE! 02/19/2012

The colors have been picked out and painted on the Language Truck, first we painted the lower cream first earlier in the week. Making sure we used a good epoxy sealer on the Language truck first. We applied 3 coats of the cream color to make sure is had good coverage.

Language Truck 2 tone

The upper color was painted next, White is what was choose for this. Paying close attention to detail we spend some extra time masking off the cream. the end result was well worth it.

The next thing we have to do is to paint the silver on the bumpers, mirrors, and flashing light covers, this will add some nice accent color to the white and cream. The last thing we are going to do is add all the logo’s to the language truck. Sometime early next week this will happen, so please stay tuned with this!

Here is a short video of the Language truck painted with both colors and out of the booth

Here is the Language Truck completed and ready for Bridget to pick it up
All Done! Thanks Bridget for everything.

This was a referral from a friend and what a great friend.  Autobody & more did an excellent job.  My car looks like it did when I bought it 8 years ago.  I forgot what the paint used to look like and I wash and wax my car all of the time.  I had so many rock dings on the hood and bumber.  Also, they pulled out all of the small door ding dents.
I would definitely recommend!! Any time in the future I need autobody repair, I am there.  I think I might even have them paint my bike, cuz they do that too.
